Breast Augmentation vs. Breast Lift: Which Do You Need?

Adding volume and lifting are two different goals. Here’s how to know which one — or both — is right for you.

This article is general information and education — not medical advice. Everyone is different, and your surgeon or medical provider will know what’s right for your individual circumstances.

It’s one of the most common questions in breast surgery: do I need an augmentation, a lift, or both? They solve different problems, so the right answer comes down to what you’d like to change.

Augmentation adds volume

If you’d like more fullness or improved balance — or to restore volume lost after weight change or breastfeeding — an implant (or, in some cases, your own fat) creates natural fullness suited to your frame.

A lift restores position

If your breasts have lost firmness or sit lower after pregnancy, breastfeeding or weight change, a lift reshapes and elevates the tissue and repositions the nipple — without necessarily adding volume.

When to combine both

Many patients want both renewed fullness and a lifted shape. In that case the two are commonly combined in a single procedure for a balanced result.

How to decide

A quick assessment of your nipple position and skin tone usually makes the answer clear. We’ll guide you through it in consultation, with honest recommendations.
